How to take medicine your doctor has prescribed
- When your doctor gives you a prescription, always ask how it should be taken - e.g. with meals or with water, and how frequently it should be taken.
- If a new medicine is prescribed, ask your doctor to review all your other medications.
- Show the doctor your list of what you are taking including over-the-counter and herbal medicines so that there will be no interactions with prescribed medicines.
Tell your doctor and pharmacists if you have had any drug allergies or adverse reactions to medicines.
- Always take your medicines in the dose prescribed and on the correct time schedule.
- Make sure you can read the label and any printed instructions. The pharmacist will use large type if necessary.
- Make sure the light is adequate to read the label turn on the light so that you can select the correct medicine.
